Notes from the Worthy Grand Scribe
Hurricanes and other potential disasters can't keep Alpha Rho Chi from our Brothers! Though Hurricane Isidore and other tragedies threatened the very conference itself, Brothers boarded flights and embarked on road trips from all over the country just to share in the training and brotherhood we knew would prevail in Tallahassee. And prevail we did! Every chapter and region was represented at this year's conference and we were treated with true hospitality by the Seshait Chapter and Florida A&M faculty. New friendships were made, old friendships rekindled, promises to see others at the next convention
In addition to WA's and other officers from each chapter, some new faces were in attendance this year. Colony Presidents from Imhotep and Cleisthenes joined us, as did a last minute addition to the participant roster: a student from the University of Texas at Austin, who plans to share what he learned and witnessed during the weekend with other students interested in reestablishing the Dinocrates Chapter!
Florida A&M's School of Architecture, having just recently undergone massive renovations, was our home base for the weekend's activities. Seshait Brothers graciously led tours of their new and improved facility and we were treated to a wonderful reception hosted by Rodner Wright, Dean of the School of Architecture. After the reception, we descended upon the City of Tallahassee, sampling their fine dining and entertainment establishments and a great time was had by all except maybe our Cleisthenes Colony President, who had a run-in with a local fountain. Before anyone writes in, he's fine and has learned a valuable lesson from the experience.
Saturday morning brought with it early (and unwanted) wake up calls, but all Brothers were right on time for the start of the day's events. Over the course of the day, the participants were bombarded with material (as is the custom for APX's Leadership Conference), provided by our wonderful guest speaker, Mr. Ken Murdock. Mr. Murdock, a faculty member of UT-Arlington's College of Business Administration, presented extremely valuable information on Leadership Behavior, followed by Negotiation Skills and a motivational discussion during lunch. The afternoon was spent discussing fundraising tactics and opportunities and some great ideas were shared. The WGE gave a quick how-to on budgets and the WGS gave a brief update on the activities of the Operations Team and the work portion of the Conference was officially over.
Saturday night was reserved for a fantastic barbecue provided by the Seshait Chapter and everyone had a great time! It's always an awesome experience to spend some quality "down time" with the Brothers and that night was no exception. "The APX Brotherhood" is always so hard to describe to those who haven't experienced it yet, but there is no doubt that everyone lived it first hand in Tallahassee. As always, we can't wait until the next time APX Brothers gather en masse, to share more ideas and stories!
Thank you Seshait Chapter, Florida A&M School of Architecture, Ken Murdock and Brothers of APX! You once again showed this Brother why Alpha Rho Chi leads the field and why we each work so hard to share APX with others. Fidelitas, Amor et Artes!
